What is Tikva?
TIKVA is a wholeness training in which calm, strengthening movements promote blood circulation. Meanwhile, Bible verses are read to give strength and inspiration. During the lesson there is soothing music that has been specially composed for TIKVA.
The movements are simple and effective for increased mobility, improved breathing and increased blood circulation, promoting flexibility and stability. Everyone can participate according to their own ability.
TIKVA is a Hebrew word that means hope as in “expectation, hoping, and faith”.
The letters also form the foundation for the values of Tikva:
Thought
Be careful with your thoughts. They can affect your whole life. It is important to work with your mind.
Insight
A Tikva instructor lives in self-insight, meaning that there is the acknowledgement that you are good enough and valuable independent of your achievements.
Knowledge of the body
I was created with a body. Everything in me belongs together: spirit, body, and soul.
Wellbeing
(Välbefinnande in Swedish)
Healthy habits without fixation.
A relaxed view/Relaxation
(Avslappning in Swedish)
A relaxed view of yourself and others by appreciating yourself and others despite their flaws.
Background
The Tikva concept was developed by Mimmi Edin who got the idea for Tikva while working with her own whiplash injury, meeting people from different backgrounds and those on sick leave who often have difficulties both with physical exercises and hopes. The response came immediately. The positive changes as well. Since the creation of Tikva, it has spread to all over Sweden and several parts of Europe.
Tikva is now owned and operated at Kungsporten by Simson Kungsporten’s Wellness Centre.
The Tikva concept
The Tikva concept integrates three elements that together comprise the Tikva concept: 1) Body movements, 2) Bible verses 3) Music.
A movement of hope for the whole person, spirit, body and soul.
Tikva words
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
The word of God grounds us in truth, and helps us to focus on the character and nature of God. It is alive and active, and when integrated with exercise, contributes to the renewing of our minds, and perspectives. That’s why during a Tikva session we read encouraging Bible verses that build up and give positive images of the participants and their environment. It’s not necessary for a participant to be a believer to practice Tikva. Grounding Tikva in the word of God is important because there are a lot of spiritual seekers in the health and fitness world, and using Bibical truth as part of Tikva is one way to meet the unique needs of these people.
The body movements
Tikva aims to impact your entire being, the whole of who you are. The body movements are an essential part of this, and are easy, effective exercises that promote increased mobility, improved breathing, and increased blood circulation, which promote flexibility and stability. Everybody can participate according to their own ability, either by doing the movements or just listening through the session. You don’t have to be fit to do or train using Tikva. There is also no need for special equipment or for Tikva sessions to be held in special locations. This means that Tikva has something to offer everybody, no matter where you might be on the journey towards a whole and healthy life.
